Speak positive about the district and know the district and its history. Good public communication and make good connections and have strong ties to board members and their families. Learn that it’s ok when the board tells you “thank you but no”. It’s not personal because it’s their kids, their schools, and their money. Meet with board president and prepare the agenda and board packets. Have someone responsible for having the board room prepared for meetings. Routinely conduct fairly short, efficient regular meetings. Initiate a positive tradition at board meetings. Recognize student and staff achievements regularly. Make time to be a cheerleader. Be prepared to make time and be available for the board president.

The superintendent knows how to facilitate the planning and implementation of strategic plans that enhance teaching and learning; ensure alignment among curriculum, curriculum resources, and assessment; and promote the use of varied assessments to measure student performance.

Students in grades K-12 will complete project based lessons that are tied to curriculum and technology application TEKS.
Revise all core content area curricula to reflect changes to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and reflect the level of rigor necessary for student success on the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams.
Work collaboratively with campuses and all content areas by meeting and reviewing student assessment data as it pertains to LEP, LEP/special Education, monitored LEP, Migrant, and PFS students to exceed the state percentage of students passing STAAR and EOC in all content areas.

Blog Follow-up: Post a reflection on the lessons learned from developing your Professional Development Plan to your blog, and read and comment on at least two other students’ PDP reflections.
This might sound strange but putting together my Professional Development Plan was fun, meaningful, and relevant to me. I was actually putting together a plan that I have lived through with my site supervisor, the superintendent. This is my superintendent’s second year as a superintendent as well as my second year working for her. We are living the second year right now and the things that we think would be most beneficial in a three year PDP is very clear for me. It has been an advantage for me, being a cabinet member on the superintendent leadership team, to have gone through the first year in a half with the superintendent. Throughout this course I have been involved in activities that I was actually doing in my district. This was so neat because it was hands on and with a purpose. This was not a drill it was my actual job. The best part about it was the activities and what I was learning in the course was a HUGH VALIDATOR that we were doing things consistent with what I was learning in the course. I could not have timed it any better for myself, new in my position and having the responsibilities and the training from the course at the same time. While I have learned a lot, I still have areas I will continue to develop over the next three years. My plan is to always focus on building and maintaining a positive Board of Trustee and Superintendent Relationships. I have learned that if this is not in place the chances of you being there for three years is very slim. I will always keep in my thoughts the “It’s their kids, their schools, and their money”. I also want to gain a greater knowledge of the District Financial Procedures to ensure that we have procedures in place for effective budget planning and management. I will need to work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop district budgets, a Goal Driven budget. Those are just two areas of knowledge and skills that I will continue to work with. There are others that I will work with as well during this three year process such as, work with Special Populations, Curriculum, HRS, and Community Relations. These are all areas that I will place attention to during my three year Professional Development Plan. I will continue to use reflection as a practice both during professional development and as I perform the jobs that are required of the Leader of the District. I will use this plan as a Road Map for success. I look forward to my journey as a Superintendent one day. I know that this Internship and my past and prior experiences have prepared me for this task.
