Board discussion Week 4

Board Discussion
EDLD 5371 Week 4 Assignment

Assessment of your school district.
Our district is Data Driven and its main focus from my observation is Graduation and student success.  I have had the privilege of working for 3 superintendents in our district that are Instructional leaders and very skilled at keeping the entire district focused on student success.  Our district’s motto has been “Destination Graduation”, where all staff K-12 is focused on the graduation of our students as priority number one.  This means from K-12 we are focused on students receiving the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in school and beyond.  In looking at the seven questions, (master schedule, staff development, budgets, board meetings, the academic day, high schools and elementary schools focuses), the driving force in all of these areas is student achievement (instructional focus).  Our district takes great pride in its extracurricular activities because we want our students to be well rounded but this takes a back seat when it comes to where we will put our personnel, time, and money.

Strength of our District
I think each of the questions brought out something special about our district.  I was very comfortable in answering each question.  I know our district has student’s best interest in mind.  Our district is not perfect but we make good, solid, Data Driven decisions.  When you make decision about kids using good data you will not be wrong many times.  We feel good about what you are doing for kids.  One of the best things about our district is that we have a school board that put student’s interest first and does not mind making those tough decisions that involve money when its support student success.  Like all districts we have a big challenge in with funding and the new accountability system.  One thing we can count on in our district is that our leaders will be making the best decisions with its funds.  The instructional program will get the attention that it deserves.
