Site Supervisor Conference (Internship Plan discussion)

Conference with Site Supervisor – Subject: Internship Plan

My site supervisor and I visited about my course involvement and the activities that I would be involved in for my internship.  When viewing the activities, she agreed, that almost all of them listed, I had already done at one time or another. This was a result of my experiences as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent.  We agreed to add more current activities that I was involved in as Assistant Superintendent.  She wanted to make my learning relevant.  We begin to look at projects/activities that I was actually doing in my position at this time.  My site supervisor thought the additional projects for my internship plan were relevant and outstanding.  These were real world assignment that were definitely appropriate for preparation for the position of superintendent.  She is excited about the direction that my internship Plan is taking.
Activities that Dr. Angie Williams recommended were:
1) Plan Summer School acceleration for the 2011-2012 ninth grade students who fail their English I, Algebra I, World Geography, Geometry, or Biology course and fail the EOC exam.  Also plan for students who pass their English I, Algebra I, or Biology course but fail their EOC exam.
2)  Plan a Dropout Walk with Selected Central Office staff and High School administrative staff.  Identify and locate students who dropped out of school and encourage them to return. This activity should be done in September each year. 3) Meet twice a week with the Board operating committee and share information regarding district finance issues.  This is a way to keep them informed and get their input.  This is also a way of building trust and positive relationships with board members.  3) Review our Registration process to see how we could reduce staff in this area and continue to provide quality service to campuses.  (Central Office Registration process review). 4) Formulate plans that will keep staff informed regarding crisis situations.  We have a new team of leaders at Central Office.  Review our plan and share with the new cabinet.  5) Review travel policy for the district and make recommendations to Superintendent regarding revisions, as needed.   6)  Review the district’s staffing formulas and make recommendations for necessary revisions. 7) Review the proposed legal and local policies assigned.  After review you may find it necessary to make revisions to the (LOCAL) policies.  Remember (LEGAL) policies are “the law” and may not be revised without attorney consultation.  8) Determine the best way to compensate assistant principals for duties above and beyond the scope of their assignments.  9) Please review sections of the Employee Handbook that are relevant to your department/area.  Please provide any requested or recommended changes.  10)  2011-2012 Cabinet Responsibilities.  Collect and submit measureable data to support the 2011-2012 District/BOT//Superintendent’s Goals.
